Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule has faulted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for telling world leaders that Kenya has a successful school feeding programme.

According to Mule, the statement by Gachagua during the UN Food Systems Summit held in Italy last week was wrong and untrue.

“Hon. Gachagua, stop lying. We heard you the other day in Italy lying to the world that Kenya has the best school feeding programme. Are children being fed by government? Government must end its lies, Kenyans want good leadership,” Mule said during a church service in his constituency on Sunday.

The legislator added that Kenyan learners could miss an opportunity to receive aid as a result of the misleading remarks by Gachagua.

“It is wrong to lie to the world, you are doing a disservice to us, to organisations which need to help schools in Kenya must end saying that Kenya has the best school feeding,” he said.

During the UN Summit, Gachagua told world leaders that Kenya has a strategy to engineer food systems through financing its production.

He said that through the Hustler Fund, the government is providing farmers with credit to enable the buy farm input, thereby increasing food production.

He went on to state that there has been a success in School feeding programmes.

“In Kenya, we have succeeded in having a very good and effective school feeding programme that has doubled school enrolment. When children have been fed, parents are able to proceed with their daily hustles unhindered,” Gachagua told the Summit.

However, the school feeding programmes are currently being implemented in Nairobi and Murang’a counties. They are on their initial stages.
