Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for what he calls theatrics in the media with serious security concerns.

This follows Gachagua’s claims of an alleged plot to assassinate him, with the DCI boss asking the former DP to follow the right channels and report to the nearest police station for the matter to be handled.

“If the former Deputy President has an issue, any matter concerning a threat to his life or property, he should go and report to the nearest police station and not engage himself with the media theatrics

Any report that comes, just like any other citizen of the country, will be investigated to its logical conclusion. I associate myself with then sentiments of the Inspector General (of police) and encourage him to report the matter to his nearest police station and he will be treated and accorded assistance just like any other citizen.”

Gachagua this week raised an alarm over an alleged attemptto unalive him and harm his family members.

In a statement penned to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Tuesday, Gachagua claimed that there have been countless attempts to take his life after being ousted from office in October 2024.

He accused IG Kanja of purposefully withdrawing his security “in a clear thought-out scheme and backward conspiracy to make me vulnerable to an organized criminal ganga in collaboration with the police.”

Gachagua further claimed that there have been attempts to attack his homes in Nairobi, Nyeri and other homes by individuals well known to the IG, “or where you are a culpable accomplice”.

“NIS operatives trail and stalk me and me immediate family members in unmarked cars or clandestine number plates. This is an affront to right to privacy,” read the statement in part.

IG Kanja, in a rejoinder, dismissed Gachagua’s claims, instead urging him to report the matter to the nearest police station.

The IG – in a statement issued by National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga – reaffirming the security apparatus’ commitment to impartial service, constitutional adherence, and the safety of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

“The attention of the National Police Service has been drawn to a letter allegedly authored by Hon. Rigathi Gachagua. The Service wishes to reaffirm its role in promoting and safeguarding national security for all Kenyans, residents, and visitors,” the statement read in part.

“Hon. Gachagua is advised to liaise with police officers for any additional security arrangements,” Nyaga noted, emphasizing that the security situation across the country remains stable and that officers are on high alert to thwart criminal activities.
