At least 200 students from Ndururi Secondary School in Nyahururu, Laikipia County were last night forced to sleep in the cold after a fierce fire razed their dormitory.

Affected students were forced to sleep in their classrooms.

School management and education officials say that the fire started at around 8:30 pm when the students were still undertaking their evening preps.

Nyahururu Sub-County Education Officer Samson Mburugu told Citizen Digital that no student was injured during the incident since they were all in class. A headcount, Mburugu says, was done to verify this.

Firefighters from Nyahururu town and students worked together to put out the raging inferno.

Mburugu added that preliminary investigations indicate that faulty power lines could have caused the fire but added that additional investigations would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

He likewise assured parents of the safety of their children.
