A domestic flight in Mexico was delayed by almost three hours after a swarm of mosquitoes invaded the plane, local media reported.

The Volaris Airlines plane was about to depart from Guadalajara to Mexico City on October 6 when the swarm made its way into the cabin. A video released shows flight attendants walking up and down the aisle while spraying the cabin with insect repellent.

Meanwhile, passengers appear to be fanning themselves. Some of them can be heard laughing.

“Bravo!” one passenger is heard saying in the background. Others can be heard telling each other to “close your eyes” as crew members continue to spray the repellent.

The passenger who took the video, Elizabeth Esmeralda Minjarez Corona, told local press that the mosquitos only calmed down after cabin lights were turned off.

Volaris Airlines did not immediately respond to request for comment. This is not the first time such an incident has taken place at Guadalajara International Airport, according to a 2019 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the post, journalist Juan Manuel Jiménez wrote that his Volaris flight was dealing with another swarm of mosquitoes. Flight attendants apparently told passengers that it was due to the “stagnant water” in the area, Jiménez added.

Local media has also reported that the airport has a history of mosquitoes impacting flights.
