A private school teacher died on the spot, eight pupils and a school manager sustained serious injuries after two school buses collided head-on at Tokyo stage along Kagio – Baricho road in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.

One of the buses is from Kutus Municipality primary school in Mwea, and the other is from Trinity Academy in Ndia.

The accident occurred during the morning hour rush of picking and taking students to schools.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of one of the bus lost control while trying to overtake the other one that was picking a student.

“We tried what we could where good samaritans rushed the pupils to different hospitals in Kirinyaga County,” Grace Kanini said.

Police officers from Baricho, Sagana and residents living along the road took over one hour to help a female school manager who was trapped in one of the school buses.

“We helped the school manager but unfortunately a teacher had died,” a senior police officer said.

According to the police, the manager of Trinity Academy has been admitted at Kagio nursing home with serious injuries while the eight pupils are admitted at Kerugoya hospital.
