Kibera Soccer Ladies coach David Vijago is aiming to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) season. The Kibera-based team finished last season in fourth place with 32 points, 17 points behind champions Kenya Police Bullets, and later secured second place in the FKF Women’s Cup after a 2-1 loss to Ulinzi Starlets in the final on July 10, 2024, at the Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Vijago revealed that they have already identified the players they need and will announce them once the deals are finalized. He mentioned that the entire squad is new after losing his experienced players at the beginning of last season, necessitating the signing of at least 10 new players to strengthen the team.

“We need more depth in our squad. Last season, we lost almost half of our team to competitors and had to sign new, less experienced players. I want to thank them for their hard work, which earned us fourth place in the league and first runners-up in the FKF Women’s Cup,” Vijago said.

He added, “Next season, our goal is to win both the league and the cup. We are currently in the process of signing 10 new players, and we will announce their names soon.”

Vijago also mentioned that they have secured sponsorship for the upcoming season, which will help alleviate financial challenges, facilitate the signing of new players, and cover the team’s running expenses.
