A Busia court has sentenced a suspected terrorist to 30 years behind bars nearly 18 months after the initial commencement of the trial in December 2021.
Jackton Jacob Kanoti alias Abdul Hakim was arrested in Siaya for his connections to both Al Shabaab and the Islamic State of Iraq.
“At the time of his arrest, Jackton was found with incriminating materials related to terrorist acts, as well as a mobile phone through which he accessed terrorism-related information via videos and chats from various telegram groups,” the DCI stated.
In its ruling, the Busia court argued that evidence tabled before the bench had proved that Kanoti was guilty of the charges leveled against him.
“The court established beyond reasonable doubt that the evidence adduced by the prosecution was credible and consistent for conviction, thus sentencing the accused person to 30 years in prison,” the DCI said.
