Police in Karimba Kanyoni village, Chiakariga sub-county, Tharaka Nithi county have arrested a 22-year-old man believed to have beheaded his 46-year-old mother-in-law.
While confirming the incident, Chiakariga Deputy County Commissioner Chalo Kaloki noted that they received an alert from the area residents.
Kaloki suspects that there may have been domestic wrangles that led to the unfortunate incident.
“We have established that there have been domestic disagreements between the accused and the wife’s family and that is what could have led to the murder,” he stated.
In the early morning incident, the suspect is said to have stabbed the deceased several times before chopping off her head.
The deceased’s mother identified as Ann Karigu noted that she woke up to screams from her daughter shortly after she had left the house to milk cows.
She says that she witnessed the man take the life out of her daughter. Afterwards, the suspect threatened to kill her too.
“I witnessed him kill my daughter Karimi and he also threatened to come back and kill me,” she added.
Eyewitnesses told police that the suspect headed to work after committing the heinous act.
He was apprehended by police and is now cooling his heels in police custody.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to Marimanti Level Four Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
