A Nairobi court ruled on Friday that a case involving a Canadian missionary charged with Sh60 million in land fraud can proceed. Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina scheduled the next hearing for Friday to allow both parties adequate time to prepare for trial.

Nelson Jason, who operates a Children’s Home in Ngong, has pleaded not guilty to allegations of conspiring to defraud Jeremiah Muuya Sailoji and Rhoda Ann Baxter of their land. He is accused of fraudulently obtaining registration for land parcel No. Kid Olchoro-Onyore/6827, which measures 6.15 hectares and is valued at Sh60 million, by falsely claiming the property was properly transferred to him.

The charges also include the alleged forgery of a transfer-of-land form intended for Rufus Karima Kalama, the then land registrar in Ngong. Additionally, Jason is accused of forging an application-for-consent form, which he purportedly presented as a legitimate application signed by Sailoji and Baxter.

Jason has denied all charges and is currently out on a Sh200,000 bond.
