Police, in collaboration with the Migori County government, are investigating an incident involving a county enforcement officer accused of assaulting a tipper driver in Rongo town, Rongo Sub County, on Wednesday. The driver was allegedly assaulted for urinating in public, sparking outrage among lorry operators who went on strike to protest the conduct of the enforcement officers in the area.
Pius Onyango, the chairperson of the Rongo Lorries Transporters SACCO, stated that the driver sustained serious head injuries as a result of the assault. Onyango, who led the protest, is calling on the Migori County government to ensure the officer responsible is arrested and charged.
Migori County executive committee member for public service management, John Kobado, confirmed that the incident is under investigation. He assured that appropriate legal action will be taken once the investigation is complete. Kobado condemned the assault, warning county workers against mistreating residents, and pledged that the county government will cover the driver’s medical expenses.
