The national swimming championship organized by the Private and International Preparatory Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) is set to take place at Riara School this Saturday, drawing participation from 23 clubs.

Confirmed participants include Lukenya Dolphins, Riara School, Kilimani Junior Academy, Leerand School, KBA School, Kitengela International, and Brookeshine School, among others.

The event has also attracted Golden Dolphins Academy, Dawamu School, Ongata Rongai, Kianda School Hospital Hill, Chantiliy School, Umoja Sharks, Premier Swim Club, and Orca Swim Club.

Benson Okoth, coach of Lukenya Dolphins, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m looking forward to the upcoming PIPSSA Kenya Gala, which marks the end of the season.” He emphasized that many swimmers are aiming to achieve personal best times and qualify for the East African Chipkizi Championship in Arusha scheduled for December.

“My swimmers will also attend a High-Performance Training Camp in Mombasa in August to gain exposure to different coaching techniques,” said Okoth.
Coach Francis Mwangi of Riara School said he is relishing the challenge of facing the top swimming sides in the city.

“I am happy my school will be hosting PIPSSA and we have made all the necessary plans to ensure the event is seamless and colourful. PIPSSA Kenya has remained a great avenue for developing swimmers from the grassroots to the national platform,” he added.

He singled out Innocent Musau, a top national swimmer who began his journey at PIPSSA.

Rachel Gathoni, PIPSSA Kenya secretary general, commented: “I am impressed with the teams’ response to the year-ender. Our events are athlete-centred to ensure they conform to international standards.”

Gathoni expects more teams to confirm their participation by the end of the week. “ We expect a competitive contest between the various schools and teams in the event.
