The government is planning to establish a framework to eliminate fraudulent certificates and degrees from national institutions, according to Esther Muoria, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training. She announced this initiative during a stakeholder workshop on the validation of the National Policy Framework for an accreditation system in Machakos County.
The proposed framework will create an accreditation system to regulate the registration process for awarding institutions and their qualifications. Muoria emphasized that, in the future, no certificates from higher learning institutions will be issued without prior registration by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
She stated, “The establishment of a National Accreditation system is part of these reforms. No certificate shall be conferred without prior registration by the KNQA. This commitment upholds credibility and excellence as paramount principles. This initiative will significantly promote lifelong learning and the adoption of global best practices, aligning our efforts with internationally recognized standards.”
This announcement follows President William Ruto’s recent directive for a crackdown on civil servants with fake credentials. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has launched investigations targeting 2,000 individuals in this effort.
