Police in Kiambu County have arrested three suspects and impounded 6,000 litres of ethanol at a house in Kiamumbi village.

According to Kiambu Police Commander Mohammed Badell, after receiving information from a citizen, the police investigated the illegal and unregistered distiller and impounded the consignment on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, a Githunguri court has granted the police permission to destroy any illicit brew that was used as evidence in court. At this time illicit brews like Chagaga, Kangara, Muratina, and three gaming machines were burned and destroyed.

Githunguri Deputy Commissioner David Juma stated that the government’s new regulations will enable them to combat illegal business concerning drugs and illicit brew.

The government on Wednesday gave fresh guidelines governing drug and alcohol sale in the country, describing the abuse of drugs and illicit alcohol as a national security threat.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced the suspension of licences for all manufacturers of second-generation alcohol. He said they will be required to apply afresh within three weeks.

“Pursuant to section 4(2)k of Preservation of Public Security Act, all licences and certification permits for second-generation alcohol and alcoholic beverage distillers and manufacturers, issued by Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Bureau of Standards stand suspended with immediate effect,” Kindiki said.
