Police officers in Kuria West, Migori County, have arrested three individuals suspected of throwing a shoe at President William Ruto while he was addressing residents of the Kehancha area on Sunday.

A security officer, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that more suspects are being pursued.

He added that preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been politically motivated and possibly premeditated ahead of the President’s visit.

The officer also revealed that authorities are narrowing in on a key suspect believed to be central to the case, which could significantly aid the investigation.

The incident, which briefly disrupted the event, occurred while the President was on his tour of Migori.

A short five-second video captures the moment when a person from the crowd listening to President Ruto as he addressed the public threw a shoe, hitting him on the head.

“Tupunguze gharama ya…” President Ruto is heard saying before the shoe hits his head.

Ruto briefly paused his speech, which had been focused on reducing the cost of farming inputs for farmers in Kehancha.

Security officers tasked with protecting the president quickly rushed to the stage, and the meeting was disrupted for a few minutes.

Some Members of Parliament condemned the incident, saying it endangered the life of the President.
