A man armed with a machete and a pair of scissors stormed Ragumo Police Station in Kisumu County on Monday, June 10, 2024, and attacked three police officers, causing serious injuries. According to a police report, the assailant entered the station while yelling and shouting before launching the violent attack.

“Today at around 1230hrs one male adult namely Nicholas Agai aged 25 years approached the station while yelling and shouting, armed with a machete and a pair of scissors.
“Officers led by the OCS approached the suspect at the station in order to contain him but he turned violent, attacked officers,” read part of the police report.

During the incident, one police officer was stabbed in the left side of the chest and was rushed to Greys Medical Center in Kisumu, where he was admitted in critical condition. Another officer sustained injuries to his right hand, while a third officer was injured on the left hand during the scuffle.

Despite police officers firing two warning shots into the air, the attacker did not retreat or surrender. Eventually, the officers managed to arrest the suspect and place him in custody.

This incident occurred just a few days after another attack on a police officer in Nairobi. Along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction, a driver assaulted an officer who was on duty managing traffic. The officer noticed the driver making an illegal U-turn, which caused an obstruction.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver hit a road kerb and the car got stuck. The officer entered the vehicle’s front passenger seat and instructed the driver to proceed to the police station. However, the driver suddenly stopped, drew a sword from under the seat, and attempted to attack the officer. The officer jumped out of the vehicle to protect himself, but the driver followed and assaulted him with blows and kicks.
