Three children under the age of 10 have died from Hepatitis A in Uasin Gishu County. County Health Executive Abraham Serem reported ten additional cases in the region, especially in Ziwa within the Soy sub-county. Serem noted a significant increase in Hepatitis A cases over the past month.
“We have ordered testing kits and are working with the Ministry of Health to ensure quick detection and management of the situation,” Serem said. He mentioned that all cases had been detected following tests at Moi Referral Hospital. Serem spoke during a visit by Governor Jonathan Bii to Uasin Gishu County Hospital to assess public services.
With the heavy rains in the region, Serem indicated the likelihood of an outbreak of diseases but assured that the county had deployed public health officers to monitor the situation. Governor Bii pledged to upgrade health facilities in the county to help decongest Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and announced plans to implement delayed promotions for health workers.
