Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three suspects—Patrick Njuguna Karogi, James Kiratu, and Susan Njoki Waithira—accused of drugging and robbing revellers in Nairobi.
The arrests followed a tip-off received via the “Fichua Kwa DCI” hotline. One victim recounted to the detectives how he had been incapacitated, robbed, and had money withdrawn from his M-Pesa account. Based on this information, DCI detectives launched an investigation that led to the capture of the trio, who are known for their criminal activities.
The hotline has proven essential in facilitating multiple arrests and addressing rising insecurity in the area. These incidents underscore a troubling trend of criminals targeting individuals in clubs and drinking establishments, employing substances such as Rohypnol, GHB, and Scopolamine to incapacitate their victims.
“These drugs can induce drowsiness, confusion, and even unconsciousness, allowing criminals to rob or assault their targets with little resistance,” authorities explained. They urge the public to remain vigilant, keep an eye on their drinks, and report any suspicious behavior.
