Three police officers were Thursday injured in a security operation where they were pursuing a gang of robbers in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the police officers were on patrol near Cooperative Bank in Mlolongo when they encountered a gang of four people attacking a woman.
Three of the suspects in an attempt to escape in a getaway car were blocked by the police officers triggering a fight where the police officers were injured.
“Police Constable Okari suffered a swollen right eye, a cut on the side of the head and a dislocated right hand. Police Constable Kyalo suffered a swollen right leg near the knee, Police Constable Ndung’u has chest pains,” reads the police report in part.
The original plates of the getaway car were reportedly altered using stickers from KDH 630Y to KDA 730F.
The accused namely John Maina aged 27 years, Alex Mutinda Mutuku, 30, and Julius Owino Okoth, 26, were found in possession of an assortment of items including digit and letter stickers to change the number plate, a bunch of assorted keys, ten pieces of master key with a grinding file to open any lock, eight phones of assorted models, three crow bars, one hook and a panga.
The woman who had been attacked by the gang had lost a mobile phone, a wrist watch, a purse containing her ID, ATM, Huduma and NHIF cards which are yet to be recovered.
The suspects are set to be arraigned on charges of robbery with violence, assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, and having suspected stolen property.
