Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz found himself in the midst of another security lapse over the weekend when a daring fan managed to snatch his signature green baseball cap during a crowded event.
The incident, captured in a viral video, highlights the challenges the artist has faced as he tries to engage with his fans.
In the footage, Diamond, surrounded by a security entourage, navigates through an animated crowd when a fan seizes the opportunity to grab his cherished green cap.
Despite the quick recovery of the cap, the incident has prompted Diamond to reassess his security arrangements.
“People were surprised why I followed up on the cap because when someone steals from you, that shows they do not respect you. I appreciate your support, but if you want something from me, just ask, and I will give you,” Diamond commented on the incident.
Acknowledging the need for heightened security measures, Diamond expressed his disappointment, stating:
“My bodyguards had not reached, and now I am forced to be walking with my security.” To maintain a positive connection with his fans, Diamond initiated a cap giveaway as a gesture of appreciation.
This, however, is not the first time the artist has faced “disrespect” from fans, as he terms it.
In August 2022, valuable jewellery was stolen from Diamond as he made his way to the stage in Lubumbashi, DR Congo.
A video posted on Instagram captured the chaotic moment when fans grabbed his accessories, including sunglasses, a beanie hat, and jewellery.
In a separate incident in September 2022, a fan tried to grab Diamond’s hand as he was heading to the stage in Lubumbashi, prompting quick intervention from security personnel.
The artist maintained his composure and proceeded with his performance.
In a throwback to 2018, Diamond lost his treasured white gold and diamond chains during the first Wasafi Festival held in Mtwara Region.
Attempting to interact with fans, Diamond leaned out of his car, and within moments, his valuable chains were snatched.
Reflecting on the loss, Diamond said, “Zile zilikuwa white gold na diamond nilinunua Marekani. Sikumbuki lakini hazishuki million arubanne. Nilijua haziwezi kung’oka, alivyotokea mtu ghafla akazipull nilipatwa na shock. (Those chains were made of white gold and diamond pieces that I bought in the United States. I don’t remember, but they were worth only Tsh4 million (Ksh1.8 million). I thought they couldn’t come off easily, but suddenly someone snatched them, and I was shocked.)”
