Tottenham have confirmed that striker Harry Kane has left the club to join Bayern Munich, ending a 19-year association with the club since his academy days.

football.london understands that deal accepted is worth roughly £100million – with add-ons that take it close to £120million – with the 30-year-old signing a four-year contract with the Bundesliga giants. A statement from the club reads: “The Club can confirm the permanent transfer of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich…”

Chairman Daniel Levy adds: “We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term. Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer. We have reluctantly, therefore, agreed to his transfer…

“Harry’s achievements and records say everything about the player, and throughout his 19 years at the Club, Harry has been a model professional, on and off the pitch and an inspiration for young players who dream of following in his footsteps. I should like to thank Harry for everything he’s done for us, all the memories, all the records – we wish him and his family all the best for the future. It goes without saying, he’s always welcome back. He’s a much loved and valued member of the Spurs family, forever in our history.”

Kane came through the academy ranks and made his debut for Tottenham in 2011, featuring in a Europa League qualification match with Hearts. He made several loan spells afterwards, though not with the success that many would have hoped, before Tim Sherwood gave him a run of games in 2014.

From there, Kane went on to become one of the leading strikers in the world, winning three Premier League golden boots, a playmaker award alongside a host of other individual honours. In the past year, records have continued to be broken too as the striker became the English national team’s top scorer of all time, overtaking Wayne Rooney, while he did the same at Tottenham by overtaking the late great Sir Jimmy Greaves.

However, his move away this summer comes after years of uncertainty surrounding the future, with Kane linked with a move to Manchester City back in 2021, though a deal was never agreed. Heading into this summer, the England international had just one-year remaining on his contract that led to questions over his ambitions and whether he will extend his stay or leave.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and PSG have all been credited with interest over the summer, but Bayern Munich were the side making the biggest push. After some initial bids being rejected, chairman Daniel Levy accepted an offer in the region of £86million on the eve of the new Premier League season.

For new boss Ange Postecoglou, it’s a far from ideal situation in losing a star and so close to the campaign kicking off, but it puts an end to a difficult saga that could now give the north London side some funds to strengthen under their new regime.
