Police are investigating a tragic incident in Kisii Town where a local businessman, Vincent Michieka, shot and killed his girlfriend, Veronica Morande, before turning the gun on himself. The motive behind the incident remains unclear.

The shooting occurred on Friday night, with reports indicating that Michieka, a licensed gun holder, first shot Morande, 30, fatally wounding her in the neck, before turning the gun on himself and inflicting a fatal head wound. Both bodies were subsequently taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases stated that the incident was reported around 11:30 pm by the chairman of the Safaricom Shop Stage Bodaboda riders. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Morande’s body with a gunshot wound to the neck and Michieka’s body with a gunshot wound to the head.

A Beretta pistol, along with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two spent cartridges, was recovered from the scene and preserved as evidence for further investigation. Police suspect that trauma and societal pressures may have contributed to the incident.
