A family of four family perished on after their mabati house in Kabocha village, Nyathuna, Kabete constituency in Kiambu County, caught fire on December 30, 2023.

The fatal blaze is said to have engulfed their residence, leaving Peris Njeri Njoroge (40) and her children Susan Njeri (22), Mark Njuguna (16), and Edward Mbugua (10) trapped in their sleep.

According to a neighbour, he heard a blast around one in the morning.

Despite the efforts of firefighters who arrived promptly at the scene, the fire had already spread uncontrollably, reducing the house to ashes.

Villagers, joining forces to combat the blaze, were unable to salvage anything from the rapidly deteriorating situation.

The remains of the victims were taken to Thogoto mortuary.

Confirming the incident, Kabete OCPD Anthony Mbogo, assured the public that the police have launched a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragic fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known, he said.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as family and neighbours want police to fasten their investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

Two weeks ago, two children from the same family were burnt to death in an inferno that destroyed 12 houses in Karungu-bii village, Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County.

The children had been left at home while their mother went to work to provide for the family when the tragedy struck.

Two children were rescued from the inferno, the cause of which is yet to be established.

Preliminary investigations point to a possible electrical fault.
