Police in Nairobi are investigating an incident where a house girl committed suicide inside her boss’s house.

In a police report seen by Nairobi News, Ms Alice Wanjohi, reported that her house help, identified as Ms Emily Wycliffe, 32, who is a Ugandan national had committed suicide.

She hanged herself and her body was found by Ms Wanjohi’s daughter, who informed her mother.

“The scene was visited, body photographed and moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem,” the report filed at Soweto Police Post in Kayole, Nairobi County read.

Meanwhile, police in Kilimani are investigating circumstances that led to the death of a 35-year-old who was found beside a railway line in Kibra, Nairobi County.

The report was filed by a man identified as Mr Hesbon, who said he was heading home on Sunday night when he found the body.

The body was taken to the City Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.

Still in Kibra, a man who resides in the Laini Saba area died by suicide inside his house.

Mr Mwaingi Mwangi, did not report to his place of work on Monday, February 13, 2023, and was not answering his phone.

His brother identified as Mr Peter Kimori, reached out to his brother-in-law, and they together decided to visit his rented house within Laini Saba in Kibra, Nairobi County.

“They found the deceased body hanging from the roof-top of the single room. Police officers visited the scene, body had no visible injuries. It was photographed before taken to the City Mortuary,” the police report read in part.

In 2022, the World Health Organisation (WHO) data estimated that 408 people die by suicide yearly. However, the figures could be high due to underreporting since it has largely been stigmatised.

The WHO further says the number of suicides reported in Kenya rose by 58 per cent between 2008-2017 to reach 421.

The report showed that more men were likely to die by suicide than their female counterparts. Out of the 421 suicide cases in 2017, 330 involved men.
