A police officer who allegedly issued death threats to his boss at the Embakasi police station in Nairobi has been charged with threatening to kill contrary to section 230 of the Penal Code.

At the Makadara Law Courts, Patrick Makori was charged with threatening to kill Chief Inspector Wachira Gikonyo who is in charge of the Embakasi police station (OCS) at his office on October 23.

The prosecution says that Makori uttered the words “mimi nitakuua” (I will kill you) to Mr Gikonyo without any lawful excuse, words that are believed to be death threats to the complainant.

Makori went to Mr Gikonyo’s office at about 5pm where he was holding a meeting with some officers on security operations while shouting.

He allegedly grabbed the OCS by the shirt wrestled him to the ground and started assaulting him while declaring that he would kill him for frustrating him, or remove him from the office.

Other officers intervened rescued their boss from their colleague and placed him in cells.

Makori was accusing Mr Gikonyo of plotting to get him sacked by the National Police Service.

The officer was in early 2023 charged with defilement and has been accusing his female colleague who is the investigating officer in the case, of making his case drag in court.

He was interdicted after he was charged.

Makori denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Erick Mutunga and pleaded for a lenient bail and bond terms through lawyer Peter Simiyu.

Simiyu told the court that Makori is a troubled man with a lot of problems and is currently depressed.

The lawyer said that he had personally successfully pleaded with Mr Gikonyo to forgive Makori and withdraw the case against him.

He said the case could be withdrawn next week and sought a cash bail of Sh10,000 for Makori.

The suspect was released on a surety bond of Sh100,000 without an option of a cash bail.
