Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has revealed how asking for help from the government before starting her 72-hour hugging feat ended up being an echo.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Truphena explained how she reached out to the Ministry of Environment asking for support, but her efforts bore no fruit.

On her part, Muthoni explained requesting support in different ways, including accreditation to the recently concluded COP 30, which was held in Brazil.

“When I was trying to achieve what I have already achieved, I did not get any support. I had requested support in different ways, but I did not get support from the Ministry of Environment,” Muthoni explained.

At the time, Muthoni revealed that her recent seventy-two-hour hugging feat in Kenya was intended to be done in Brazil during the COP 30.

“I requested accreditation support to go to COP 30, but I didn’t get it. This record I did in Kenya was supposed to happen in Brazil,” she explained.

Speaking at length during a TikTok livestream on the night of Thursday, December 11, 2025, Truphena reflected on the hardships she has endured throughout her life, noting that many viewers may not fully understand the weight of her experiences.

She explained that these challenges have fuelled her commitment to ensure that no girl has to navigate the same pain or uncertainty she faced while growing up.

“I will make sure that girls won’t have to go through what I went through in life. In my journey, I have been through so much, even though many people don’t know. I want to use my platform to help other people grow,” she said.

During the livestream, she also reacted emotionally after TikTok users sent her a large number of gifts and M-Pesa contributions.

Truphena said the support became so overwhelming that her M-Pesa briefly jammed, making it hard for her to transfer the money to M-Shwari.
