Vocal actress Wanjiku Stephens has come out strongly in support of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following his ouster as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General.

In a statement shared on her official Instagram account on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Wanjiku described Sifuna as the man of the season, insisting that he does not need ODM.

“Man of the season. He doesn’t need ODM, tuko nayeye mpaka mwisho,” Wanjiku said.

Her remarks come amid mixed reactions after Sifuna was removed from his position as the party’s Secretary General, a move that has sparked debate across political circles and on social media.

Wanjiku’s message signalled unwavering support for the Nairobi Senator, suggesting that his leadership and influence go beyond party positions.

Following his ouster, Sifuna, in a statement on Thursday, February 12, 2026, said that he has received overwhelming messages of support and encouragement following the development.

He further revealed that he would address the nation later in the day to handle some of the concerns raised.

“I will speak to the press this morning to address some of your concerns. Ahsanteni sana. God bless,” he added.

Sifuna is also set to address a political rally in Kitenegela on Sunday, February 16, 2026, as he charts a new political path.

Sifuna’s ouster

This comes shortly after Sifuna was ousted and replaced by Catherine Omanyo as the party’s SG.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the ODM Party said the decision was reached after a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Mombasa.

“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of the Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect in accordance with the Party Constitution and applicable laws,” the statement reads.

The party announced that Catherine Omanyo, who had been serving as Deputy Secretary General, will take over in an acting capacity.

“Effectively, the Deputy Secretary General Hon. Catherine Omanyo will act in this position until a substantive holder of the position is elected,” the ODM statement says.

According to the statement, the meeting involved extensive consultations and deliberations on internal party affairs, leadership conduct, and the party’s overall direction.

The NEC emphasised that its decisions were anchored on the party constitution and established governance structures.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) held its meeting in Mombasa on 11th February 2026 to deliberate on critical party matters and the prevailing political environment,” part of the ODM Party statement reads.

“The NEC expressed grave concern over the rising levels of indiscipline within the Party, particularly at the senior leadership level,” the statement reads. It further notes that “ODM is governed by its constitution, the rule of law, and collective decision-making through its duly constituted organs.”
