In an unexpected turn of events, former Juja MP aspirant Eunice Wanjiru Mugo, whose campaign slogan was ‘twende kazi,’ has been sentenced to 18 months of community service at a chief’s camp in her constituency. This follows charges of assaulting and insulting her elder sister-in-law, Njeri Waithaka, over a property dispute.
The incident, which occurred last year, led to Eunice spending three weeks in Thika prison remand before her case was adjudicated at Thika Law Courts by Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga.
During the trial, evidence revealed that Eunice had physically and verbally abused Njeri, who is significantly older than her.
Magistrate Wanyaga underscored the importance of respecting elders and maintaining community harmony in his sentencing. Eunice, who had unsuccessfully contested for the MP seat in Juja twice, has expressed remorse for her actions. Njeri, the assault victim, has stated that she is satisfied with the court’s decision and feels that justice has been served.
