Police in Kilindini, Mombasa County have arrested two suspects found in possession of 26 kilograms of bhang.
The pair, Collins Omondi and Halima Masudi Hassan, were arrested by Anti-Narcotics detectives on Friday.
Omondi was the initial target of the detectives, who tracked him from the Likoni Matatu Station, where he reportedly received a suspicious package from Tanga, Tanzania. He subsequently stored the cargo in his Subaru Treza; Reg. No. KDE 948E.
“The officers, shadowing Omondi’s every move, trailed him to Fazuka Apartment Complex in Utange Solian, where they swiftly arrested him,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on X.
“A search of his vehicle uncovered a cleverly concealed manilla sack, camouflaged with a mound of oranges. Upon closer examination, the sack was found to harbour 14kg of bhang.”
Following the seizure, detectives proceeded to the apartment belonging to Hassan.
“The officers knocked at the house of Halima Masudi Hassan. Unfortunately for her, the faces she met at her door were what she dreaded. In her house, an additional 12kg of bhang was seized,” said the DCI.
Both suspects are currently held at Port Police Station awaiting arraignment.
