Two guards killed at Kabete Vet Lab Secondary School

Police in Kabete are investigating a brutal night attack at Kabete Vet Lab Secondary School that left two security guards dead and property worth thousands of shillings destroyed.

The incident occurred on Friday evening, October 17, 2025, shortly after students had finished preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

According to witnesses, a watchman from a neighbouring school who alerted the school administration after hearing commotion, unknown assailants gained access to the school compound and attacked the two night guards on duty before vandalising several facilities.

The school headteacher, Evans Owala, who arrived shortly after the incident, confirmed that one of the guards had died on the spot, while the second succumbed to injuries while being rushed for treatment.

“When I arrived in the compound, one guard was already dead, and the other was still breathing. We tried rushing him to the hospital, but he died on the way. But here, they got in through here and got out through the same place,” he revealed.

Further, he revealed that the attackers are reported to have stolen ten laptops and several keyboards from the school’s computer laboratory.

However, in their hurried escape, some of the stolen items fell along the corridors.

“They took ten laptops and some keyboards. But in the process of trying to run away, these keyboards dropped. Again, when they were doing these, they broke all the CCTVs along the corridors, which were also put in the carton box they were trying to disappear with. These CCTVs also dropped,” he added.

Kenneth Wanjala, the elder brother of one of the deceased guards, identified as Dickson Omollo, expressed grief and called for justice.

Investigations

Police officers from Kabete Police Station have launched investigations and are reviewing available CCTV footage from nearby institutions to track down the suspects.

The bodies of the two guards were moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
