Two people including a nine-year-old boy were injured in Rapogi Village, Migori County, during a clash between rival political groups at a funeral event.
The victims were caught in the chaos as opposing groups, one aligned with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and the other supportive of Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, engaged in violence.
Gunshots rent the air, prompting attendees to flee for safety.
Fueled by a longstanding feud between the two groups, the altercation turned the funeral event into a battleground. Governor Ayacko condemned the incident as regrettable, accusing the MP of orchestrating violence in his constituency.
In his response, Nyamita accused the governor of promoting violence to cover up his own inefficiencies.
“We condemn those shameless politicians who think that politics should be that of violence and that the police are part of their local goons and that they will intimidate anybody. We are not intimidated by anybody we are only intimidated by the fact that we are to be orderly people,” Governor Ayacko said.
Nyamitta added: “Because we were annoyed we walked out, in walking out they started shooting aimlessly, the security team of the governor not only shot at us but they shot at the police vehicle almost injuring a police officer the same security shot at our team injured one of our staff.”
