Two motor vehicle theft suspects arrested on Mombasa-Nairobi highway

Two suspects believed to be part of a car theft have been arrested by DCI detectives in Makindu, Makueni County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two; Joseph Katee Nzainga and Nelson Musyoki Mbidyo, are suspected of being behind a string of highway motor vehicle thefts.
They are accused of orchestrating robberies targeting vehicles headed to Uganda as well as unregistered cars bearing Kenya Dealers (KD) plates.
“In one incident on August 28, 2025, the pair allegedly robbed a black Toyota Harrier with KD plates from a motorist in the Makindu area,” said the DCI.
The suspects were arrested along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and were found in possession of several items, including a set of registration plates (KDR 885Z), three ID cards belonging to different people, five mobile phones, a wheel spanner, and other assorted items.
They are currently in police custody pending arraignment.
