Two police officers attached to Kinjo Police Patrol Base in Meru County have been arrested following allegations that they defiled a three and a half year old girl.

The two law enforcement officers allegedly abused her inside a police housing unit.

The suspects, identified as Police Constable Nicholas Njagi and Police Constable James Mutabari, were placed in custody at Kariene Police Station on October 11, 2026.

The arrests follow a harrowing report filed by the minor’s mother, a resident of Kinjo Market, who noticed her daughter in severe distress after playing outside on the evening of October 9, 2026.

According to police investigation reports, the child recounted how a man she fondly referred to as “Baba” carried her on his shoulders to his house.

Once inside, the assailant allegedly subjected her to a horrific assault involving an object she described as a large needle or syringe (“sindano kubwa”).

The minor’s narrative was corroborated by two juvenile witnesses, aged seven and twelve, who had been sent by the mother to look for the missing child and allegedly discovered her inside the house occupied by Constable Njagi.

A medical examination conducted at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Meru confirmed the mother’s worst fears.

The attending doctor filled out a P3 form, noting physical trauma, lacerations, swelling, and fluid presence consistent with defilement.

Armed with the medical reports, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Imenti Central Sub-County launched an immediate probe, processing the scene and recovering two bedsheets as crucial forensic evidence.

The breakthrough in the case came during a formal identification parade conducted at the Kariene Police Station.

Police say the young victim positively identified both Constable Njagi and Constable Mutabari as the individuals involved in the assault, addressing both officers as “Baba” during the emotional process.

The two officers were arraigned before the Githongo Law Courts, where DCI was granted 14 days to detain them ahead of plea-taking.
