Police in Rongai, Kajiado County on September 11, 2023, nabbed two suspected robbers.

The duo, identified as Humphrey Irako and Ian Chibeya were nabbed along Olekasasi Road in the wee hours of the morning for robbing from members of the public.

“They have been stealing from members of the public, especially during morning hours,” said a detective who is attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

This comes at a time when police in Dandora have launched a manhunt for four men who have allegedly been giving locals sleepless nights.

A getaway motorbike the duo has been using to flee scenes of crime was burnt by angry locals.

The four have been identified as Mr Benson Mugo, Mr Emmanuel Maina, Mr Melvin Macharia and Mr Richard Maina.

Meanwhile, a police officer attached to the transport pool section has died by suicide.

Mr James Kimathi Riungu was over the weekend found in his compound moments after hanging himself in the chicken house.

In February, a task force was set up by President William Ruto to improve the terms and conditions of the National Police Service.

The stakeholders in the NPS include; current and retired officers, members of civil society working on police reform, communities, and professional organisations.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome was the first one to submit proposals to the task force.

Addressing the task force, which is led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, Koome IG highlighted critical challenges police officers face in the execution of their duties.

Some of these challenges, he said, greatly hamper the National Police Service’s efficient and effective service delivery to the public.

He called upon the task force team to visit all parts of the country and seek further submissions and views from members of the National Police Service on the ground.
