DCI officers in Nyanza have arrested two female suspects and recovered the stolen pistol believed to be stolen from the slain Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko.

Nyanza Regional DCI Coordinator Lenny Kisaka said officers got wind of a planned robbery attempt along the Luanda–Siaya road and laid a trap.

He added that the multi-agency team that swung into action flagged down a private saloon car but the two occupants defied the orders prompting a shootout.

Kisaka says the suspects, a man and woman, then fired rounds in the air prompting police to deflate the car tyres and the car veered off the road.

The male suspect then escaped on foot with gunshot wounds into a nearby thicket and boarded a motorcycle while the female suspect was immediately apprehended and a Ceska pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition recovered.

The pistol’s serial number, Kisaka added, matched that of Ayieko’s stolen weapon which went missing following his abduction and subsequent killing.

Speaking to Ramogi at the Nyanza DCI headquarters in Kisumu, Kisaka said police dogs were immediately deployed and managed to trace the fleeing suspect to a hideout not far from the scene.

Despite the suspect fleeing again, a second female suspect was nabbed from the hideout and recovered a police jungle uniform which they suspect the trio used to commit robberies along the Kisumu-Busia highway.

Kisaka has called on members of the public to be on the lookout and report to the DCI anyone with bullet wounds attempting to seek medical attention through the Fichua number 08100722203.

Meanwhile, he has urged friends and relatives of the late Ayieko to remain calm, saying that DCI is treating the matter with urgency and all those involved will be brought to book.

The duo’s arrest now brings the total number of arrested suspects to three after the first suspect was nabbed by DCI officers in Dandora, Nairobi on Tuesday.
