Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi emphasized that the U.S. remains one of Kenya’s most significant partners in promoting conflict resolution in the region.
Speaking at the 248th anniversary celebration of the USA Independence Day at the official residence of US Ambassador Meg Whitman, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s leading role in ensuring regional and continental peace and security. He underscored the strong partnership between Kenya and the U.S. in addressing and resolving conflicts, contributing to stability and development in the region.
“The U.S. has been one of Kenya’s greatest partners in enhancing regional leadership in conflict resolution and stabilisation. We hold the view that to strengthen our national security, we shall require international cooperation to secure our people at home and abroad,” he said.
He noted that Kenya and the US continue to work closely on many other avenues including at the United Nations, on a range of issues including peace operations.
Mudavadi said the two countries are also democracies working together for regional peace, security, and prosperity.
“Kenya believes that entrenching democracy, promoting human rights and the rule of law are the best options to achieve peace, security, stability, and sustainable development,” he added.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi remarked that Kenya-US relations have been on an upward trajectory since diplomatic relations were established in 1964, with Ambassador William Atwood as the first head of the US Mission in Nairobi. He highlighted that the recent successful state visit by President William Ruto further solidified these relations.
“During the successful state visit, the two friendly states elevated their relationship to cover wider partnerships in areas of trade, investment, security, and uplifting Kenya into a digital front-runner and hub in the region, fondly known as the ‘Silicon Savannah,’” Mudavadi stated.
He also commended US Ambassador Meg Whitman for her exemplary efforts in strengthening Kenya-US relations and enhancing Kenya’s international standing. “The people and government of Kenya sincerely recognize your hard work and we commit to continue working closely with you for the mutual benefit of our friendly states,” he added.
