Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has singled out forward Marcus Rashford for special praise after Aston Villa’s win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie on Tuesday.

Rooney said the England international was fantastic for Aston Villa against the French Ligue 1 champions during the encounter at Villa Park.

He, however, urged Rashford to replicate his display against PSG for Manchester United when he finally returns to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Man United, was impressive as Unai Emery’s side came from 2-0 down to beat PSG 3-2 at home.

Unfortunately, Aston Villa failed to advance to the Champions League semi-final stage because they were defeated 3-1 in the first leg last week in Paris.

PSG qualified for the semi-final on a 5-4 aggregate win and will face Arsenal or Real Madrid in the last four.

“They were on the front foot, PSG were rocked, they were rattled, and Villa were going for them,” Rooney said on Amazon Prime’s coverage.

“I have to say, I have to give a massive shout out to Marcus Rashford. I thought he was fantastic, the Rashford we have seen over the years.”

“His skill, his ability, getting at players, driving at players, and then his awareness to pull the ball back.”

“When this goal goes in, you can feel the atmosphere and the Villa players get that belief that they can get back in the tie.”

He added, “I hope he goes back to Manchester United and performs like he did today.”
