A man in Luweero, Uganda, is facing prosecution for allegedly conspiring with his mistress to bribe a medical doctor to kill the mother of his four children through a medical procedure.
Mr Friday Musoke and Ms Enid Kanyonyozi are said to have reached out to Dr Onesmus Bainomugisha at his facility, seeking to kill his wife through medical means for a Ush.5 million (Ksh.174,000) payment.
The local newspaper Daily Monitor reports that the doctor blew the couple’s plan after recording them making their proposition.
The lovebirds allegedly wanted to rule out any possible suspicion by the relatives because killing her by hiring gunmen could leave room for possible investigation and arrests.
“I did not only act professionally but had deep pain to save the life of this mother by any means through contacting the authorities. I knew that if I simply turned away the suspects, they could possibly find alternative means of executing the mission since they were already determined to have the woman killed,” Bainomugisha told the court on Monday.
Chief Magistrate Mariam Nalwanga heard that as the negotiations went on, he was passing on the information to Luweero District Police Commander.
“During our discussion, which I secretly recorded, I asked Musoke why he wanted to kill his wife and why he had chosen the medical procedure and not any other means including the use of the gun,” the doctor said.
The report says that in the recorded conversation, Musoke also accused his wife of making his life difficult, ‘seizing’ all his powers as head of the family and turning their four children against him.
“I also inquired about his relationship with Enid Kanyonyozi and how sure he was that she would not disclose the deal to a third party. Musoke explained that he trusted Kanyonyozi,” Bainomugisha added.
Court documents show that on December 29, 2022, Kanyonyozi turned up at Global Medical Centre to deliver the 500,000 Ugandan shillings as the first instalment.
A day later, on December 30, 2022, Musoke called the doctor that he was picking chloroform, the substance that he would use to render his wife unconscious to enable him to transport her to the hospital to close the deal.
Eventually, the Police Flying Squad was contacted and Mr Musoke was arrested as he turned up to finalise the murder plot, shortly after picking the substance.
