A Ugandan police officer identified as Constable Ivan Wabwire shoots an Indian moneylender at Raja Chambers in Uganda on Friday, May 12, 2023.

According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the victim, Uttam Bhandari, was the Director of TFS Financial Services and had been shot dead with an AK47 by the police officer.

The suspect, who had acquired a loan from the victim’s company in 2020, had reportedly visited the victim to obtain a quotation for a loan transfer to an unidentified bank. However, an argument over the balance ensued between them, leading to the shooting.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene on a bicycle and later abandoned the firearm at CPS Kampala. Onyango further disclosed that the police constable had been banned from gun possession for six years due to a medical condition and had stolen the firearm used by a fellow colleague.
