Ulinzi Starlets forward Fasila Adhiambo believes that they have what it takes to defend the FKF Women’s Cup title, after storming the round of 16 last weekend.
The soldiers kicked off their campaign this season with a resounding 6-0 win over TUK Ravens at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi, and are now set to take on Kitale-based Royal Starlets.
Adhiambo said the weekend victory motivates them although they know the competition will get harder the more they progress, conceding they need to sharpen their attack even more.
“It was a very nice game. We kept the focus and never underrated our opponents despite the fact that they play in the lower tiers. We were patient even after starting slowly, and that’s how we were able to finally get the massive win.
“We now can build on this and reciprocate the confidence and support our fans have accorded us by going all the way,” she averred.
Starlets have meanwhile appointed Ulinzi Starlets defender Clive Otieno as an interim coach and Ex- Harambee Stars tactician Francis Kimanzi as club consultant. The duo are holding forte for the ailing head coach Joseph Wambua Mwanza.
“It’s sad to miss our head coach Wambua but we believe Clive and Kimanzi are equally up to task. We are praying for coach Wambua and the best we can do for him is to win the Cup,” added Fasila.
Ulinzi won the last edition in June 2023 after edging Nakuru City Queens 3-1 at the Nyayo Stadium.
They also finished third in the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL), which was won by Vihiga Queens as Gaspo settled for the second position.
