Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry reaffirmed his support for U.S. presidential hopeful Kamala Harris on Monday, expressing that the Democratic candidate could bring “hope and unity” to a divided nation. Curry, a long-time friend of the U.S. vice president, who hails from Oakland, California, had previously endorsed her during the Paris Olympics.

“Supporting her is an honor. She’s a sophisticated leader, and I have confidence that she can lead our country by providing hope, inspiration, and unity,” Curry said during the Warriors’ media day.

He acknowledged the many challenging conversations that the U.S. faces and the significant progress that still needs to be made. Curry also emphasized that Harris, who is competing against former president Donald Trump for the White House, would bring a “level of decency and humanity” to the role.

“First and foremost, can she run the entire country and be a leader for everyone?” Curry asked. “I feel like she checks that box. You’ve got to start there. That’s why I have confidence in her.”
