On Tuesday, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) hosted Uzra Zeya, the United States Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. Zeya was accompanied by US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman and other senior officials from the US Embassy in Nairobi.
EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud, along with other senior commission officials, welcomed the US delegation. The high-level meeting focused on exploring ways to enhance mutual cooperation and collaboration between US enforcement agencies and the EACC in intensifying the fight against corruption and economic crimes.
Zeya emphasized the US’s commitment to advancing the fight against corruption through international anti-corruption frameworks and partnerships.
Mohamud highlighted the importance of the strong existing partnerships between the EACC and US law enforcement agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
He noted that these partnerships have provided the EACC with specialized training in complex financial investigations and advanced tools and equipment for corruption investigations.
The visit from the US delegation reinforces the EACC’s commitment to strengthening collaborations with key international stakeholders, acknowledging the transnational nature of economic crimes.
