Internet sensation Gloria Ntazola has revealed that she decided to get all prints of the new zipper hooded deras amid the backless dera wave.
Nairobi ladies have been riding high on the dera trend that has taken over timelines in recent weeks. From bold prints to daring backless styles.
Taking to her Instagram stories on Monday, February 16, 2026, Ntazola hinted at how competitive the trend has become. According to her, new designs are coming up every week, pushing sellers to innovate constantly.
“Hii mambo ya dera usipochangamka utabaki nyuma vibaya sana. Every week new design,” Ntazola stated.

On Monday, February 16, 2026, comedienne Mammito made fun of the backless deras noting that the new fashion is not for everyone.
In the clip, Mammito lamented that her dera does not accentuate her figure as MJaka Mfine’s does.
“Yangu hainitoi vile wewe yako inakutoa,” she quips.
“Yako ni mafru,” MJaka Mfine responded
“Hapana yangu ni tumbanya, ona hainitoi vile nataka, hata si feel confident,” Mammito added in mock frustration.
The mother of one concluded with a playful reality check: “Hizi backless dera si za kila mtu.”
Backless and hooded deras
The dera is a long, loose-fitting dress popular in East Africa, often worn for comfort and casual style. In recent weeks, backless deras have become especially visible online. These versions show part of the back or include inner support, such as built-in bras, giving the traditional garment a modern twist while keeping its relaxed shape.
Alongside the backless piece, the hood and zipper details are a new take on the classic dera, which usually does not have closures or hoods. The additions make the garment look more like a casual streetwear piece, appealing to younger customers who follow trending looks on Instagram and TikTok.
