Veteran Luo musician Nyar Kanan stages powerful comeback after years of silence

Renowned veteran Luo gospel musician Caroline Akinyi Omwaya, widely known as Nyar Kanan, is set to make a remarkable return to the music scene after a hiatus of several years.

The celebrated singer, whose powerful voice dominated the gospel industry in the late 1990s and early 2000s, is now stepping back into the spotlight.

Her comeback is being facilitated by comedian and humanitarian activist Eric Omondi, who has organised a live concert in Kisumu to mark her grand return.

Taking to his official social media channels, Omondi announced that the comeback concert dubbed ‘Nyar Kanan live in Kisumu’ will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Kisumu Sports Ground in Kisumu County.

“We officially received our Mum in Kisumu City in readiness for her comeback concert, ‘NYAR CANAAN LIVE IN KISUMU’ at the Kisumu Sports Ground on the 16th of November 2025. We will make sure that our Mum gets back on her feet. We started rehearsals last night,” Omondi disclosed.

In addition to the live concert, he revealed that plans are also underway to launch her YouTube channel, record new music, and revive some of her most popular hit songs as part of her return to the gospel scene.

“We will open a YouTube Channel for her, Record New Songs and redo her famous songs. Calling upon Everyone in Kisumu and around the Country and the World to come witness the biggest rebirth on the 16th of November. GOD BLESS YOU,” Omondi added.

The Duweya Alam Nyasacha hitmaker gained recognition in the gospel industry for her powerful voice and culturally rich lyrics and eventually became a celebrated figure for creating music that praises God and inspires spiritual reflection within the Christian community.

Her songs became household favourites not only in the Luo region but across several parts of the country, cementing her legacy as a key figure in preserving authentic Luo gospel sounds.

Often sung in Dholuo and occasionally mixed with Swahili, Nyar Kanan’s music is known for its uplifting lyrics and vibrant arrangements that celebrate Luo gospel traditions.

On Sunday, October 26, 2025, Eric Omondi visited Nyar Kanan, during which he revealed the challenges she has been facing and urged fans and well-wishers to contribute toward building a beautiful house for the legendary musician.

“Hey guys… This Woman is a Living Legend. Our Mum blessed us since we were Kids. But now she really needs our help. Things have not been well for her, and we are going to get her back on her feet. We are going to build her a small, beautiful house,” he said.
