Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has made a shock transfer to Scottish second tier league side Dunfermline Athletic FC.

Wanyama, 33, has reunited with Neil Lennon after the former Kenya international played under the new Dunfermline boss at Celtic between 2011 and 2013.

He won two league titles and a Scottish Cup, and scored in the Champions League victory over Barcelona in 2012 before leaving for Southampton.

Cult hero Wanyama stayed on the south coast for three years and made 97 appearances for Saints before moving to Tottenham for a four-year stint.

During Wanyama’s time at St Mary’s, Saints finished eighth, seventh and sixth in the Premier League, qualifying for European competition.

Wanyama, whose contract with MLS side CF Montreal expired in January, has joined the Pars until the end of the season subject to international clearance.

Lennon was appointed as boss of the struggling Championship side last week with the remit in the final seven fixtures of keeping them in the league.

Dunfermline are six points clear of bottom club Airdrieonians and two behind eighth-placed Hamilton.
