Four-time Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) champions Vihiga Queens have vowed to gun down Kenya Police Bullets when the two sides lock horns on Saturday in the league encounter at the Police Sacco Stadium.
The two-teams are joint at the summit of the league with 28 points but the Law Enforcers currently top the standings courtesy of a superior goal difference.
After beating Kibera Soccer Ladies 2-0 in their last fixture, Vihiga head coach Boniface NyamuhNyamuh believes his side has what it takes to topple the Law Enforcers and reclaim their lead.
“We have had intensive preparation ahead of tomorrow’s match and despite Bullets being a tough side; we believe we will defeat them to regain our supremacy of the league. Being second of the league doesn’t demoralize us at all, at the same time last season we were at the same position but finally we managed to clinch the title for the fourth time.
“I’m urging my girls to stay focused ahead of the match and to be determined enough. We have to take each match at a time and to respect every opponent we shall meet.” NyamuhNyamuh said.
Bullets will be entering the match buoyed by their 3-0 win over Bungoma Queens FC last weekend.
At the same time, NyamuhNyamuh has bemoaned the loss of former skipper Mercyline Wayodi who moved to Ugandan side Kampala City.
The Harambee Starlets midfielder was unveiled on Wednesday becoming the latest star to ditch the KWPL giants with reports indicating that the 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Ugandan side, with an option for a further year.
Wayodi captained the KWPL champions in 2022 following Enez Mango’s departure to Farul Constanta of Romania and has been very instrumental to the team’s midfield department.
“I can say that losing Wayodi it’s a big blow to us but at the same time it’s a blessing to the player because she will have the chance to further her career. Here in Vihiga we love seeing players impressing other clubs and it means we are nurturing their talents well.”
Other KWPL matches to be played on Saturday will see Bungoma Queens taking on Gaspo at Sang’alo Institute while Kibera Soccer Ladies will tackle Wadadia at The Wolves den in Kajiado.
On Sunday, Ulinzi Starlets will host Nakuru City Queens at the Ulinzi Complex while Bunyore Starlets will be up against Zetech Sparks in Mumboha grounds.
