Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has clarified claims that he was among the leaders allied to the Azimio la Umoja coalition who were apprehended in connection with the anti-government protests.
This after a few reports by sections of the media had said that Osotsi had been in police custody since Friday.
In a statement on Sunday, the Senator noted that he had gotten wind that he was targeted for arrested but he managed to ingeniously evade the police.
“On Friday during the launch of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) by the county government of Vihiga, there were spirited attempts to arrest me,” read the statement in part.
“Two police lorries full of armed anti-riots policemen were stationed outside Sosa Cottages with several others in plain clothes 2 inside Sosa cottages ready to undertake the illegal arrest.”
He further claimed that the police had been communicating with “a top ANC official and two-term MP” whom he says was also attending the function.
“Shame on the MP for being a conspirator against an elected colleague,” he said.
“I want to thank my supporters and like-minded people who helped me outsmart the arrest by timely exit from the scene through the nearby house and then drove through panya routes to safe location where I stayed until today.”
The legislature claimed that the arrest was prompted by allegations that he was planning to disrupt President William Ruto’s function on Saturday.
“I want to reiterate that I had no such plans and as a leader who believes in freedom of assembly and association I cannot engage in such a primitive and illegal activity,” he said.

The arrests are said to have been in connection to the ongoing anti-government protests.
