Emma grew up in Mbale, Vihiga County, in a household where one mother was raising eight children largely on her own.

Like many young Kenyans in similar circumstances, she packed her bags for Nairobi, where she found work as a househelp.
Nairobi, however, proved to be a turning point rather than a dead end.
Emma joined Life Ministries, an evangelical organisation, as a singer.
When did Emma first travel to Norway?
In 2000, the group travelled to Norway for a music and evangelism tour, and Emma went with them.
She was scheduled to return to Kenya a few weeks later. Instead, just three weeks before her departure, she met Ole Christian.
What started as an unlikely encounter between two people from vastly different backgrounds grew into a lasting relationship.
How many children does Emma have?
The couple married a year after they met. Christian later flew to Mbale to formally meet Emma’s family, paying a dowry of six cows. Together, they also helped Emma’s parents acquire land and construct a home.
More than two decades on, Emma and Christian are raising four children, two boys and two girls, in Rakkestad, a small Norwegian town roughly 50 kilometres from Oslo.
Emma did not stop there. The woman whose schooling had once been interrupted by poverty went back to education and qualified as a special needs teacher.

She now supports children who require additional learning assistance. Christian works alongside people with intellectual disabilities, including two autistic individuals he helps on a regular basis.
Beyond their professional lives, the couple have built a farming venture.
During Norway’s short summer season, Emma grows sukuma wiki in their kitchen garden using seeds carried over from Kenya, keeping a tangible thread of home alive thousands of kilometres away.
Emma remains focused on supporting her family in Kenya
Commercially, the family cultivates around 50 acres of wheat. They also own an additional 100 acres of forest, bringing their total landholding to approximately 150 acres.
Emma attributes her transformation to faith, describing her journey as evidence of what gratitude and perseverance can produce. She also remains focused on supporting her family back in Kenya.
Her story traces an extraordinary arc: a girl who could not afford school fees, a young woman scrubbing floors in Nairobi, a singer who boarded a plane to Europe, and eventually a teacher, wife, mother and landowner in Scandinavia.
