Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has issued a seven-day ultimatum to security agencies to complete investigations and determine the motive behind a mysterious gunshot fired near his family’s home in Kibiko, Kabete Constituency, on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Governor, accompanied by several County Assembly Members led by Majority Leader Godfrey Muceke, condemned the incident and demanded swift action.
The shot struck the home of Margaret Njeri Njuguna, a neighbour living about 40 metres from the governor’s residence, raising concerns that Wamatangi himself could have been the intended target.
The governor explained that the incident occurred just 30 minutes after he returned from a morning church service.
After a short rest, he visited his farm and found unknown individuals cutting trees with a power saw. He halted the activity and returned home, only to be informed moments later that a gunshot had been fired at his neighbour’s property.
“Jirani yangu, ambaye ni wa familia, alisikia mlio na kudhani ni jiwe. Alipoenda kukagua, alikuta shimo kwenye mabati, na alipochungulia chini akapata risasi,” he said.

Wamatangi hinted that the attack may have been politically motivated, noting that some of his rivals were unsettled by the president’s recent visit to Kiambu and the strong support he received from residents.
He vowed not to be intimidated, insisting that no political actor would silence him through threats or violence.
Muceke condemned the act, noting that the ammunition used appeared to be from an AK-47 rifle. He called for heightened vigilance around the governor, stating that authorities should ensure his safety and that of the community.
Margaret Njeri recounted hearing a loud bang at about 3:30 p.m., after which she discovered a bullet on the floor of her children’s bedroom. She reported the matter to the police and urged continued vigilance and protection in the area.
“Shamba langu liko hapo juu ya la Gavana Wamatangi. Alikuwa amekuja kuangalia shamba lake, ndiyo mlio ukaja upande wangu. Ndio ikanikujia ama ni yeye alikuwa anamuwinda?” Njeri said.
The governor and his team are demanding a thorough investigation, stressing that no stone should be left unturned in establishing the motive behind the attack and bringing those responsible to justice.
