Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has reiterated his plans to run for the Nairobi governor’s seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. The three-term ODM MP aims to position himself as a leader capable of tackling Nairobi’s growing challenges and promoting inclusive governance.

“I wanted to be the governor of Nairobi in 2022, but I was told to wait. This time, nobody will tell us to wait,” he declared. Wanyonyi stressed that his aspiration for the top job in Nairobi is now stronger than ever, expressing confidence in his support from his constituency.

“My journey to City Hall in 2027 is still on. I expect Westlands to give me 100 percent of the vote,” he stated, emphasizing his deep connection with the community and his expectations for their backing.

During the 2022 elections, Wanyonyi had to put aside his ambitions to run for governor after the leadership of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition selected Polycarp Igathe as their candidate.

At a recent social gathering in his constituency, Wanyonyi made it clear that the moment for his candidacy has arrived. “They cannot stop an idea whose time has come,” he said.

He believes that Nairobi’s leadership requires a visionary approach and asserts that he is uniquely qualified for the role. “I have so many enemies, including in my party, who keep saying that I will not be the governor of Nairobi. But this time, if they stand in our way, we will bypass them,” he asserted.

Wanyonyi added that his vision for governorship is centered on inclusive development, particularly focusing on the needs of youth and small business owners. “I will take care of youth interests and protect business people from harassment,” he vowed.
