Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has clarified that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has not directed his followers to join Kenya Kwanza. Speaking on Sunday, Kioni emphasized that Uhuru’s stance remains that Kenyans should not be abandoned in their times of need.
“Uhuru has not instructed anyone to join Kenya Kwanza or support a government that is driving up the cost of living,” Kioni stated.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga had claimed that Uhuru contacted him during the Gen Z protests and suggested he speak with President William Ruto. Kioni dismissed this as doublespeak, criticizing opposition leaders who now support the Kenya Kwanza administration despite previously criticizing it.
Kioni asserted that Uhuru’s position is for opposition leaders and those in the Jubilee party to continue working in the best interests of Kenyans. He also stated that Azimio is focused on forming the government in 2027 and has no intention of merging with or joining Kenya Kwanza.
“When you talk of Uhuru, his mind is very clear, he is the one who told Kenyans not to go to UDA, he cannot now tell people to go to Kenya Kwanza,” Kioni said.
The former MP asserted that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s position regarding the 2022 general election has not changed, even with Kenya Kwanza now in power. Kioni stated that Uhuru views Kenya Kwanza as a “sinking ship” likely to fail before completing its five-year term.
“He is concerned that we cannot join a sinking ship. We firmly believe that Kenyans will not tolerate this disaster and will seize the chance to vote them out when the opportunity arises,” Kioni said.
The ex-MP also affirmed that Azimio will stay united leading up to the 2027 elections and expressed their readiness to collaborate with others once they secure victory in the next polls.
“We are going to form the government and in 2029, there are those who will come to join us and we will receive them that time,” he said.
